Shootout loss in South River

Titans fall to Spartans in Shootout

The Titans were in South River on Friday evening to take on their regional rivals, the first place Almaguin Spartans. Things got off on the right foot as the Titans played an excellent first period and went to the break leading 2-0 on goals by Alex Provost-Ross on the power play and Simon Brannvall. In the middle period, they upped the score to 3-0 on slap shot from Dayton Murray. But two goals in 42 seconds by the Spartans and all of a sudden, we had a hockey game. The two teams took turns peppering the goaltenders until with less than 2 minutes in the period, the Spartans drew even, sending the teams into the final 20 minutes tied at 3 goals apiece.

A scoreless third period then gave way to a 5 minute 3 on 3 sudden death extra period that still didn’t declare the winner. So it would be decided by a shootout. The Spartans got the only goal in the SO to take the 2 points. The Titans still get one point for the overtime loss. The announced shots were 62-54 Spartans. Emile Goulet took the loss. The Titans weekend doesn’t get much easier as they travel to Ville Marie to try to put a stop to the Pirates string of victories over them. Game time in Ville Marie is 8pm.
