Titans end 2016 with a split
The Titans were playing their last two regular season games of 2016 over the weekend. A Friday night road trip to Gravenhurst to face the South Muskoka Shield (17-6-5). The Titans have given the Shield a hard time in past games but fell short in the end. Friday night was a different story as the Shield scored early and often to hand the Titans probably their worst defeat of the season dumping them by a score of 9-2. Nothing seemed to work for the Titans during this game and the opposite for the Shield, they could do no harm. Nick Proulx and Gustav Rollfelt had the lone goals for the Titans. Titans were outshot 47-30. Vile Makinen and Raffaele Izzo shared the duties in goal.
Saturday afternoon, the Titans were hosting the Meaford Knights (11-14) for a rare 2pm start. The Titans got on the scoreboard first with a shorthanded goal by Adrien Guenette which triggered a shower of Teddy Bears thrown onto the ice. This game was the Titans annual Teddy Bear toss for the Lions Club food baskets. Almost 200 teddy bears were collected. In the second period the Knights tied the score at one. But soon after the Titans replied with two goals less than 2 minutes apart to open a 3-1 lead. Both goals came from Ryder Murray. Later in the period while shorthanded again Larri Vartiainen controlled the puck from one end to the other and slid a perfect pass across the goal mouth right on Scott Sovinsky’s stick, who roofed the puck in the top of the net. Meaford made it 4-3 on a power play with their goalie pulled for a 6 on 4 advantage. The Titans held on for the last 2 minutes to preserve their 4-3 victory. Shots were 39-38 Titans. Raffaele Izzo got the win. 3 stars were Ryder Murray, Adrien Guenette and Arvid Sjogren. Following the game the Titans held their annual Xmas party. Volunteers, billet families, players family members and of course the players and coaches all enjoyed a traditional holiday meal. This was followed by some fun games involving the players including, musical chairs, limbo and Tic, tac, toe. The rest of the evening had the crowd on the dance floor showing off their moves. A great time had by all.
