Pirates spoil Titans home opener
It was opening night at the Centre for the Titans as they were hosting their highway 101 rivals, the Ville Marie Pirates. A large crowd of over 700 saw the Titans open the scoring in the 4th minute on an Erik Lilliecreutz goal. The Pirates took a little while to get going but fired three straight goals to finish the first period leading 3-1. Alex Provost-Ross scored early in the second to make it 3-2. But the Pirates replied shortly after to give themselves a 2 goal cushion at 4-2. A little over a minute later the Pirates struck again to increase their lead to 5-2. A mad scramble in the Pirates net area resulted in a Victor Mattsson penalty shot. Mattsson fired a wrist shot that found the back of the net and lifted the water bottle over a foot in the air. The Titans were back wihin 2 again. But another power play by the Pirates capitalized to end the second by the score of 6-3 Ville Marie. The teams exchanged goals in the final 20 minutes to bring the final score 7-4 in favor of the visitors. Julien Vogt had the 3rd period goal. Axel Hallor added 2 assists. Shots on goal were 48 apiece. Ville Marie scored on 3 power play while the Titans replied on two of their own. The difference in tonights game was 3 defensive zone giveaways that resulted in 3 goals. Some good action, some nice hits by both sides. Next up for the Titans is another home game of Friday Septmber the 14th as the New Tecumseth Civics will be in town for an 8pm start.
