Shoot out win gives Titans 2nd spot

The stage was set at the Centre on Saturday afternoon as the Almaguin Spartans and Titans were meeting to solve 2nd and 3rd position in the North division. Both team were tied with 68 points and both playing their last game of the regular season. The game wasn’t even started as Spartans netminder Sebastian Carlson was struck by a deflected puck and laid on the ice during the warm-up. The ERT’s were called and Sebastian was taken to hospital. The Spartans starting netminder was now Tanner Emerson and his team gave him a 1-0 lead. But Dayton Murray tied the score before the end of the first. In the second, the Titans scored twice, Scott Marshall and Murray with his second put the Titans ahead 3-1 after 40 minutes. The Spartans scored early in the third to reduce the lead to 3-2. About half way through Anthony Bedard restored to 2 goal lead at 4-2. But two goals by the Spartans, the tying one with less than 2 minutes to play in regulation. The teams played an extra five minute overtime period but that solved nothing. A shoot-out would be required to determine the winner of the game. Michael Chuinard was first to go and he beat Emerson five hole. Erik Erkers from Almaguin was stopped by Andreas Morger. Next up was Ryder Murray and he deeked Emerson out of position and slid the puck in the net. A save by Morger on Matt Janke would give the win to the Titans. Janke broke went forehand, backhand, forehand and shot…right into Morger’s catching glove. Game over Titans victory. Shots on goal were 51-27 Titans. 3 stars were Dayton Murray, Erik Erkers and Kurtis Klinger. The Titans will know as early as Sunday evening their opponent in round #1 of the playoffs. Nevertheless it will be an opening home game for the Titans.
