Pirates slip by Titans, 5-3 at the Centre
In a game where 58 minutes and 30 seconds were played and the Titans and Pirates were knotted at 3 goals apiece but a nice individual effort from Alex Montreuil broke the tie and the Pirates added an empty netter for a 5-3 win.
Tonight’s game had no bearing on the standings as both teams knew their placing in the playoffs with the Pirates taking 2nd position and the Titans the 3rd place.
Both goaltenders were strong making several outstanding saves as the shots, that were in the Titans favor, 49-33.
Both team scored twice in the first period, the Titans got their goals from Joakim Braneby and Axel Hallor. In the middle period , the Pirates jumped ahead 3-2 only to have Erik Lilliecreutz send the tema to their dressing rooms tied once more with a power play goal with only 26 seconds to play in the period.
The Titans have one last home game on Saturday night when they host the Almaguin Spartans. Prior to the start of the game the Titans will be retiring captain Dayton Murray’s jersey in a ceremony.
The Titans now know who their opponent will be in the first round of the playoffs. With a 4-2 win in South River, the West Nipissing Lynx will play the Titans in a best 2 0f 3 first round matchup. Meanwhile the Pirates need to wait for the outcome of the Bulls/Meaford game tomorrow in Meaford.
