Titans win shootout thriller in Meaford

The Titans were playing the Meaford Knights on Sunday afternoon in Meaford. The last time these two teams met resulted in a 4-3 Titans win at the Centre. The outcome of Sunday’s game was the same 4-3 score but a seven round shootout was required to determine the eventual winner. Jakob Wilhelmsson was the hero of the game scoring the winning goal. Meaford opened the scoring in the first period but Adrien Guenette tied it before the end of the period. A single Knights goal in the second made it 2-1 after two periods. Nico Wilton got the Titans back even in the third on a power play but the Knights replied to regain a 3-2 lead. Ryder Murray then scored with fewer 6 minutes to play in the game to send the two teams to a five minute overtime period that the Titans played a man short due to a major penalty handed out to Hampus Andersson. The Titans killed off the major and forced the game to be decided by a shootout. A total of 7 shooters were required to decide a winner. The Titans outscored the Knights 2-1 in the S-O. Marc-Antoine Arseneau also scored on his try. But it was Wilhelmsson that put an end to the game. Larri Vartiainen had 3 assists. Shots were in the Titans favor, 56-42. Veli Makinen got the victory making 6 saves in the shootout
