Titans bow to Pirates in home opener

The Temiscaming Titans were playing their 7th home opener since their inaugural year of 2011. Their record in home openers was perfect at 6-0, but the upstart Ville Marie came to town on Friday evening and left with a 4-3 win in their first ever GMHL regular season game. With a crowd of over 600 in attendance and a good portion who came down from Ville Marie were treated to fast paced action packed game. The Pirates opened the scoring late in the first period and carried the 1-0 lead into the second period. The Titans then moved ahead on 2 power play goals by Michael White and Julien Vogt. But the lead was short lived as Ville Marie tied the score at two less than 3 minutes later. And then went ahead for the second time with less than 3 minutes to play in the second period. Harald Sundell’s goal early in the third period created a tie at 3 goals each. Things looked like an extra period might be required but with less than 5 minutes to play what looked like a harmless shot from a bad angle eluded Titans goalie Rafffaele Izzo. That proved to be the winner. Titans outshot the Pirates 55-30 and the 3 stars were Jean Ouellette goalie from Pirates, Michael White of the Titans and Benoit Arpin of the Pirates. In between the 2nd and 3rd period the Temkin Campers group dropped by to make their yearly donation of $400 for the purchase of their annual trophy and monthly plaques given to a Titans player every month of the season for the player who contributes the most on and off the ice.   The Titans next game will be next Friday September 15 when the Bradford Rattlers will be in town, game time as usual is 8pm.
